Triumphant III : Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy

Our Triumphant III is Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the only Pakistani to have won two Academy Awards (Oscars).

She is known for works that highlight the inequality with women. She is also the recipient of six Emmy Awards and was honoured by the Government of Pakistan with the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, its second highest civilian honour.

In her Oscar-winning film, “A Girls in the River—The Price of Forgiveness” she highlighted the issue of honour killings in Pakistan. The film is said to have prompted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to change the law on honour killings in the country.

She is definitely a hero and so I felt compelled to include her in my triumphant series.
